The great retreat: politics in a post-populism and post-pandemic Era

Since the 2008 economic recession, and more recently with the coronavirus pandemic, the certainties that have guided Western capitalism for decades have been called into question. The crisis of the neoliberal project has led to calls on both the right and the left for the return of an interventionist state as a counterbalance between collective interests and the chaos unleashed by globalized capital. Neo-statism has become the new political norm. This is the central idea presented in The Great Retreat: Politics in a Post-Populism and Post-Pandemic Era by Paolo Gerbaudo. In addition to the author, Marcos Nobre and Maria Fernanda Sikorski will also be present for a discussion on the topic.
